As a young girl growing up, the alias R.J. Shayne decorated my endless poems and stories about the world, my hopes, aspirations and nature. My mother and I wove fantastical tales about munchkins who lived in the forest, and wrote them down on thick, yellow pads of legal paper. Although that girlish fetish wore off, my love for the written word has only grown stronger.
In my professional work, I have chosen to put pen to page to address controversial social issues through immersion journalism, and profile influential individuals and their crafts to showcase their activism.
When I am not interviewing amazing people for stories and splicing words for thought-provoking copy, I am feeding my adventure fanatic side. I love rafting rivers to see what is around the next bend, climbing mountains to snowboard and run down them, running aspen-laden trails and contorting my body into creative yoga poses for strength and balance. I am also an avid traveler, heart-based activist and serious nature lover.
